California Driver License Requirements at-a-glance:

  • Drivers education is required for teens under 17½-years-old.
  • You must be at least 15½-years-old to receive your learner’s permit.
  • You must be at least 16-years-old to receive a driver’s (provisional) license.
  • You must log at least 50 hours of supervised driving with 10 hours being at night to receive a provisional driver’s license.
  • You must hold your learner’s permit for at least 6 months.
  • For the first 12 months or until you turn 18 , provisional licensed drivers may not drive from 11pm to 5am without supervision.
  • For the first 12 months or until you turn 18 , provisional licensed drivers may not carry passengers under 20-years-old without supervision.
  • Sign up for our online California drivers education course.
  • Complete the course on your own time and pass the final exam to receive your Certificate of Completion.
  • Schedule to take the DMV permit written exam at your local DMV office. You should be well prepared after completing our online course.
  • Pass the written test and provide the appropriate paperwork (proof of social security, application, etc…) to get your learner’s permit. Now you can take to the road with an authorized instructor, parent, guardian, or CA licensed adult over the age of 25.
  • Complete 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a DMV licensed driving instructor.
  • Practice your driving and log all your necessary hours.
  • After six months with your learner’s permit, take the DMV driving exam. Pass and receive your California driver’s license!
  • Remember all that you’ve learned during your behind-the-wheel training and in your online drivers ed course. Hit the road… and be safe!

CyberEdDriverEd.com California online drivers ed course accepts payment in the form of credit card, check, online check, and money order.  You may also select the “pay later” option and this will allow you to take the California online drivers education course before payment.  However, you must pay prior to taking the final exam.
When I register for the CyberEdDriverEd.com California internet drivers education course, can I also select a shipping method for receiving the California certificate of completion?
Yes.  CyberEdDriverEd.com offers several convenient options for shipping your California certificate of completion, including regular US Mail and Federal Express.  When you register, you will be asked to select the delivery date for your California certificate of completion. If you select regular US Mail, your online California traffic school certificate will be delivered in 7-10 business days, and if you select Federal Express, you can have your California certificate of completion by or before 10:30AM the next business morning if you select Priority Overnight.  Other options include Standard Overnight (by or before 5PM the next business day), Second Day (by or before 5PM on the second business day), Express (by or before 5PM on the third business day), and Saturday (by or before 12PM on Saturday) if you complete your online California traffic school course on a Friday.

I am 16 years old and I want to take a California online driver education course. Is it possible for me to take the California online drivers ed course that CyberEdDriverEd.com offers?
In most states, you must be at least 15 1/2 to take drivers ed for your learners permit.   Please check with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), California Department of Education, or California Department of Driver License Services to make sure that you are old enough to take California driver education.

Please be aware that although CyberEdDriverEd.com is sufficient for fulfilling driver education requirements in some states, in other states CyberEdDriverEd.com is only offered as a supplement to the driver education and/or training you will receive at a state-approved driving school.  To find out if CyberEdDriverEd.com will meet your state's minimum driver education requirements, we recommend that you check with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
If I do not do well on the CyberEdDriverEd.com California drivers education online course's final exam, how many times will I be able to retake it?
Once you finish the California drivers ed internet course, you must take your California final exam.  If you don't pass the California test on your first try, you can retake it as many times as you need until you pass!
Do you know if my parents would receive any California insurance discount when I pass the CyberEdDriverEd.com California internet drivers ed course?
In some states, insurance carriers do offer insurance discounts to families with teens who take a California internet drivers ed course.  If you are not certain whether your California insurance provider offers discounts for California teen drivers, then your parents should ask before you enroll in this California internet drivers education course.
Once I start the California online drivers ed course, will I be able to use different computers for the course, or do I have to stick with one?

Yes, you’re free to ask for a refund at any point during the California online drivers ed course as long as your California certificate of completion has not yet been shipped. What are the steps I must take in order to take the California learners permit test?
It varies from state to state, so what's required in California may be different than what's required in the next state over.  Generally, you need to have your completion certificate showing that you passed a California driver education course before the California DMV will allow you to take your California learner's permit exam.  However, it's probably a good idea to either call the California DMV or visit their website to find out exactly what the prerequisites are in California in order to be eligible for a California learner's permit.
