California Institute of Safety FAQ's

Can you tell me if California Institute of Safety is a certified driving school in California?
Although California Institute of Safety is listed on our list of driving schools in your area, we are unable to say with certainty as to whether they are currently approved to teach driver training courses in California.  We recommend either calling California Institute of Safety directly or the California DMV to find out whether or not California Institute of Safety offers behind-the-wheel training courses that are state-approved.
I heard that parents can fill the role of driving instructor in California, so taking a Los Angeles driver training course like the one California Institute of Safety offers is not necessary. Is that true?
You should contact the California DMV or a licensed driving school like California Institute of Safety and ask them.  While parent-taught driving instruction is permitted in some states, many states do NOT allow it.
What if I don't know how to operate a vehicle with a manual-shift? Does California Institute of Safety have an automatic-shift vehicle they'll allow me train with?
Since you're just learning how to drive, you probably don't know how to operate either a manual-shift or an automatic-shift vehicle!  However, if you have a preference as to a stick or an automatic, you probably should call California Institute of Safety to see if they can accommodate your request prior to your signing up to take their driver training course.
I live in a small rural town, where there are a lot of small, unpaved roads. Will my behind-the-wheel training with California Institute of Safety include learning how to drive in remote areas? Or do they just offer training for urban driving?
Most local driving schools will likely want their students to know how to drive safely in the local area.  Therefore, chances are good that the behind-the-wheel training you receive from California Institute of Safety will include handling unpaved roads and mountain driving.
Can I apply for my California learner's permit once I turn 14?
Most likely, no.  Most states have set the youngest age to obtain a learner's permit at 15 or 15½.  You may want to contact the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driver training school like California Institute of Safety to learn more about the minimum age requirement in California.
I live in Los Angeles California. Does the law say I have to enroll in both a drivers education classroom or online course and a behind-the-wheel training course in order to be fully-licensed here?
Each state has its own laws in regards to licensing procedures.  However, most states do require that new, teen-aged drivers register for both a behind-the-wheel training course plus either a drivers education online course or drivers education classroom course .
