Berkeley Driving School FAQ's

Since Berkeley Driving School is listed on your website, does this mean they are approved by the California DMV to offer driver training courses?
The list of driver training schools on our webpage is provided as a convenience to our customers only.  We CANNOT guarantee that every single school listed is fully-certified by the California DMV.  You may want to call Berkeley Driving School directly to find out if they offer a state-certified behind-the-wheel training course.
Do you know if I can complete my driver training with my mother or father instead of attending a driving school like Berkeley Driving School?
Some states allow teen-agers to do their behind-the-wheel training with their parents instead of attending a professional driving school.  We recommend that you contact the California DMV or Berkeley Driving School directly to find out if California allows parent-taught behind-the-wheel training.
I can't drive a manual-shift. Will Berkeley Driving School allow me to complete my behind-the-wheel training on an automatic-shift vehicle?
We recommend that you contact Berkeley Driving School and ask them if you can do your driver training using a vehicle that has an automatic shift before enrolling in their behind-the-wheel training course.
I live in a small rural community, where there are a lot of small, unpaved roads. Will my driver training with Berkeley Driving School include learning how to drive in remote areas? Or do they just offer training for urban driving?
Most local driving schools will likely want their students to be taught how to drive safely in the local area.  Therefore, chances are good that the driver training you receive from Berkeley Driving School will include handling dirt roads and mountain driving.
I just turned 14 years old. Am I eligible to receive my learner's permit in California?
Probably not.  The minimum age requirement for holding a learners permit in most states is 15 1/2.  You should contact the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driver training institute such as Berkeley Driving School to find out more information about the minimum age requirement in California.
Can I take Berkeley Driving School's driver training course before taking a Oakland California drivers education classroom course or online course?
It depends on what California's laws prescribe.  However, you should know that most states will require teen-aged, first-time drivers to complete both a drivers education classroom course (which are approximately 30 hours in length, depending on California's laws) or an approved online course, plus a state-approved driver training course.  We recommend that you contact Berkeley Driving School directly to see if they offer either (or both) of these courses.
Does Berkeley Driving School provide a behind-the-wheel training course like the one that is required by the State of California? I need to register for one in order to obtain my driver license.
Berkeley Driving School offers driver training courses which are approved by the California DMV.  You may want to contact Berkeley Driving School directly for more information about their courses and how to go about registering for one.
What are the prerequisites in Oakland California for obtaining a drivers license?
It depends on your state's laws, however in many states, teen-agers must complete both a drivers education classroom course and a behind-the-wheel training course.  Berkeley Driving School may offer an approved driver training course which you could take.  Please contact Berkeley Driving School for information regarding their available classes and how to go about signing up for them.
Is it necessary for me to complete a behind-the-wheel training course in order to get my first California driver's license?
Yes, it is.  All teen-aged drivers applying for their first driver's license in California are required to take a state-approved behind-the-wheel training course.
Can I register for a California-licensed driver training course even if I don't have my California instruction permit yet?
Most likely, no.  Most states have laws that require a pre-licensed driver to have obtained a California learners permit before registering in a California behind-the-wheel training course.  It would be best for you to contact a driving school such as Berkeley Driving School and ask for more information.
