Swift Driving School FAQ's

How do I know if Swift Driving School is certified by California's DMV to offer driver training courses?
While we do include Swift Driving School's contact information in our driving school directory, we cannot say with certainty as to whether Swift Driving School is licensed by the State of California.  We recommend that you either contact Swift Driving School directly or possibly the California DMV to find out if Swift Driving School is a certified driver training school.
Could I just have my mother or father give me my behind-the-wheel training instead of paying money to take a professional behind-the-wheel training course?
It depends on which state you live in.  There are some states which permit you to complete your behind-the-wheel training with a parent or guardian instead of attending a professional driving school.  However many states require that first-time drivers take a professionally-taught driver training course.  We recommend that you ask your state's DMV office to find out if your parent or guardian can fill the role as your behind-the-wheel driving instructor.
Do I need to tell Swift Driving School that I need to train with an automatic-shift automobile? I don't know how to drive a manual-shift car.
Most new drivers don't know how to operate either a stick-shift OR and automatic-shift car!  We recommend that you ask Swift Driving School if you can complete your driver training using an automatic-shift automobile before you register for their driver training course.
Since I live way out in the country where driving on unpaved roads and bumpy terrain is the norm, will Swift Driving School be able to teach me how to drive in a rural environment? Or do they only prepare you for city-driving?
Since you live in the country, odds are that any local driving school in your area such as Swift Driving School will want you to be able to drive safely on unpaved roads and bumpy terrain.  We recommend that you contact Swift Driving School directly to find out exactly what they offer.
After I turn 14, will I be eligible to obtain my learner's permit so I can begin to learn how to drive?
It depends on which state you live in, however most states unfortunately require you to be at least 15 (or sometimes 15 1/2) before you can be issued a learner's permit.  We suggest that you contact a local driver training school such as Swift Driving School or the California DMV office to learn more about the minimum age requirement for driving in California.
Do I have to take both a defensive driving classroom course and a behind-the-wheel training course in Oakland California to get my California driver's license?
The laws vary depending on which state you live in, but most states do require that pre-licensed drivers register for a drivers education classroom course and a behind-the-wheel training course.  You may want to call a driving instruction company like Swift Driving School and find out if they offer either (or both) of these programs.
California law says that I must enroll in a hands-on driver training course in order to get licensed to drive in Oakland California. Is this something that Swift Driving School can help me with?
Yes, Swift Driving School offers the California-approved behind-the-wheel training course.  For more information about their classes and instruction schedule, please contact Swift Driving School directly.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a California driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to complete both a driver training course in addition to a safe driving classroom or online course.  You may wish to contact the California DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to meet in order to obtain your first driver's license.
I live in Oakland California and would like to apply for my first driver's license. Do I need to take a driver training course before I can be licensed?
