Hands-On Driving School FAQ's

Is Hands-On Driving School a licensed driving school in Illinois?
Just because a driving school appears on our directory of driver training institutions, we cannot guarantee that they are fully licensed to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in Illinois.  We highly recommend that you contact Hands-On Driving School directly or the Illinois DMV to find out for sure if Hands-On Driving School offers behind-the-wheel training courses that have been approved by the State of Illinois.
I heard that parents can fill the role of driving supervisor in Illinois, so taking a Streamwood driver training course like the one Hands-On Driving School offers is not necessary. Is that true?
You should contact the Illinois DMV or a licensed driver training school like Hands-On Driving School and ask them.  While parent-taught driving instruction is permitted in some states, many states do NOT allow it.
What happens if I don't know how to drive a stick-shift vehicle? Will Hands-On Driving School allow me to do my driver training with an automatic-shift car?
Considering you're a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating any type of car--stick-shift or automatic-shift!  However, if you prefer to complete your driver training using an automatic-shift vehicle, you should contact Hands-On Driving School and let them know before you enroll in their behind-the-wheel training course.  That way you will know for certain if they will accommodate you.
I live in a very rural area, where there are mountains and a lot of dirt roads. Do you know if Hands-On Driving School teaches students how to drive in rural areas like where I live instead of just driving on smooth, paved roads in urban areas?
Since you live in a remote area, a local driving school such as Hands-On Driving School will tailor your behind-the-wheel training to handle the conditions in your area.
Can I apply for my Illinois instruction permit once I turn 14?
Most likely, no.  Most states have set the youngest age to obtain a learner's permit at 15 or 15½.  You may want to contact the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a certified driving instruction school like Hands-On Driving School to learn more about the minimum age requirement in Illinois.
Do you know if the laws in Illinois require new teen-aged drivers to register for a behind-the-wheel training course in addition to a drivers education classroom or online course?
The laws vary from state to state, but many states do require you to register for a behind-the-wheel training course with "hands-on" practice in addition to a drivers education classroom or online course.
Illinois's DMV has told me that I need to take a behind-the-wheel training course. Do you know if Hands-On Driving School offers this course or not?
Hands-On Driving School does offer the driver training course that Illinois requires all new teen-aged drivers to take.  For more information about the courses Hands-On Driving School offers, we recommend that you contact Hands-On Driving School directly.
What are the requirements in Streamwood Illinois for getting a drivers license?
It depends on your state's laws, however in many states, teen-agers must complete both a drivers education classroom course and a behind-the-wheel training course.  Hands-On Driving School may offer an approved behind-the-wheel training course which you could take.  Please contact Hands-On Driving School for information regarding their available classes and how to go about signing up for them.
Is there a law in Illinois that says I have to take driver training in order to get my driver's license?
Yes.  State law in Illinois requires that all teen-agers enroll in an approved driver training course before receiving a Illinois driver's license.
Is it all right if I sign up with a driver training school like Hands-On Driving School prior to my receiving my instruction permit?
In most states, you are required to have already received your instruction permit before you sign up to take your behind-the-wheel training course like the one offered by Hands-On Driving School.  We suggest you contact either Hands-On Driving School to find out more information.
