Suburban Driving Academy FAQ's

Are all the driving schools listed on your website fully-licensed by the Illinois DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in Illinois?
The driving school directory on our website is for your convenience only, and we cannot absolutely guarantee that every driving school listed is currently accredited to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in Illinois.  We suggest you contact the Illinois DMV to make sure a particular driver training school is certified before you sign up to take their driver training course.
Somebody told me that I can skip out of attending a driver training school if my parents give me behind-the-wheel training instead. Is that permissible in Illinois?
Each state has its own rules regarding driver training.  Some states will allow parentally-supervised behind-the-wheel training as a substitute for enrolling in a behind-the-wheel training course which is taught by a professional driving instructor.  However, not all states allow this.  You should contact the Illinois DMV to find out for sure.
I have no clue how to drive a stick-shift vehicle. What happens if Suburban Driving Academy makes me train on a stick-shift vehicle?
Considering the fact you are a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating ANY type of vehicle....stick OR automatic!  If you prefer to do your behind-the-wheel training with an automatic-shift vehicle, you may want to call Suburban Driving Academy and let them know before you sign up to take their driver training course.  That way you'll know for certain whether Suburban Driving Academy will be able to accommodate you before you pay them any money.
I don't live anywhere near a city. There are dirt roads and rugged terrain all around my house. How do I know if Suburban Driving Academy will train me on how to drive in a remote area like where I live and not just teach me how to drive in a town-or city-type environment?
Since Suburban Driving Academy is a local driver training company in your area, it's a safe bet that Suburban Driving Academy will be motivated (or perhaps required) to teach its local customers how to drive on bumpy terrain.  If you want to make certain, however, you may want to call Suburban Driving Academy to find out exactly what's included in their driver training course before you register with them.
Are 14-year-olds permitted to apply for a learner's permit in Illinois?
Although a few states allow teen-agers to begin practicing how to drive at 14, most states have set the minimum age for which to hold an instruction permit at either 15 or 15½.  You will need to contact the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a certified driving instruction company like Suburban Driving Academy to find out what the minimum age for driving is in Illinois.
Can I take Suburban Driving Academy's behind-the-wheel training course before taking a Westchester Illinois defensive driving classroom course or online course?
It depends on what Illinois's laws say.  However, you should know that most states will require teen-aged, first-time drivers to complete both a defensive driving classroom course (which are approximately 30 hours in length, depending on Illinois's laws) or an approved online course, plus a state-approved driver training course.  We recommend that you contact Suburban Driving Academy directly to see if they offer either (or both) of these courses.
Does Suburban Driving Academy provide a hands-on driver training course like the one that is required by the State of Illinois? I need to register for one in order to obtain my driver license.
Suburban Driving Academy offers driver training courses which are approved by the Illinois DMV.  You may want to contact Suburban Driving Academy directly for more information about their courses and how to go about registering for one.
I live in Westchester Illinois. What are the requirements for me to be able to get my first Illinois driver's license?
It depends on the particular laws of Illinois, but most states require teen-aged first-time license applicants to successfully complete both a drivers education classroom course and a behind-the-wheel training course.  Suburban Driving Academy may offer courses which would fulfill the driver training requirement, however you will need to contact them directly to find out exactly what types of courses they offer.
Do I have to take a Westchester Illinois driver training course in order to get a driver's license?
Yes.  All drivers in Illinois must enroll in an approved behind-the-wheel training course in order to receive a driver's license.  Please contact Suburban Driving Academy for information on the types of driver training courses they offer in Westchester Illinois.
Do I have to obtain my learner's permit in Illinois before I am permitted to register for a behind-the-wheel training course like the one Suburban Driving Academy gives its students?
Laws vary from state to state, however most states do require that you receive a learner's permit before you can sign up to take a driver training course like the one that Suburban Driving Academy gives its students.
