Payne Driving School FAQ's

Since Payne Driving School appears on your website, does this mean they are approved by the Virginia DMV to offer driver training courses?
The list of driver training schools on our webpage is provided as a convenience to our customers only.  We CANNOT guarantee that every single school listed is fully-certified by the Virginia DMV.  You may want to call Payne Driving School directly to find out if they offer a state-certified behind-the-wheel training course.
Could I just have my mother or father teach me how to drive instead of paying money to take a professional driver training course?
It depends on which state you live in.  There are some states which allow you to do your behind-the-wheel training with a parent or guardian instead of attending a professional driving school.  However many states require that first-time drivers take a professionally-taught behind-the-wheel training course.  We recommend that you check with your state's DMV office to find out if your parent or guardian can fill the role as your behind-the-wheel driving instructor.
Do I need to tell Payne Driving School that I need to train with an automatic-shift car? I don't know how to operate a manual-shift automobile.
Most new drivers don't know how to operate either a manual-shift OR and automatic-shift car!  We recommend that you ask Payne Driving School if you can complete your behind-the-wheel training using an automatic-shift automobile before you enroll in their driver training course.
The area in which I live is mostly undeveloped--very few paved roads and mountains are all around. Will Payne Driving School be able to teach me how to drive safely on bumpy terrain as well as in a city or town?
Considering that you live in a rural area, chances are excellent that a local driving school like Payne Driving School will want you to be able to drive safely on unpaved roads and other types of bumpy terrain.  You may wish to contact Payne Driving School to find out exactly what their driver training course includes before enrolling in their training course.
After I turn 14, will I be eligible to obtain my instruction permit so I can begin to learn how to drive?
It depends on which state you live in, however most states unfortunately require you to be at least 15 (or sometimes 15 1/2) before you can be issued a learner's permit.  We suggest that you contact a local driver training school such as Payne Driving School or the Virginia DMV office to learn more about the minimum age requirement for driving in Virginia.
