Gateway Driving Center FAQ's

Are all the driving schools listed on your website fully-licensed by the New York DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in New York?
The driving school directory on our website is for your convenience only, and we cannot absolutely guarantee that every driving school listed is currently licensed to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in New York.  We suggest you contact the New York DMV to make sure a particular driver training school is certified before you register for their driver training course.
I heard that parents can fill the role of driving supervisor in New York, so taking a Schenectady behind-the-wheel training course like the one Gateway Driving Center offers is not necessary. Is that true?
You should contact the New York DMV or a licensed driving school like Gateway Driving Center and ask them.  While parent-taught driving instruction is permitted in some states, many states do NOT allow it.
What if I don't know how to operate a stick-shift automobile? Does Gateway Driving Center have automatic-shift vehicles that I can drive when I do my driver training?
If you're taking a Schenectady New York driver training class, chances are you don't know how to drive ANY vehicle yet-- manual or automatic.  However, if you prefer an automatic vehicle then you should tell Gateway Driving Center that prior to enrolling in the course in order to make sure they can accommodate you.
I don't live anywhere near a city. There are unpaved roads and rugged terrain all around my house. How do I know if Gateway Driving Center will train me on how to drive in a rural area like where I live and not just teach me how to drive in a town-or city-type environment?
Since Gateway Driving Center is a local driver training company in your area, it's a safe bet that Gateway Driving Center will be motivated (or perhaps required) to teach its local customers how to drive on bumpy terrain.  If you want to make certain, however, you may want to call Gateway Driving Center to find out exactly what's included in their driver training course before you register with them.
Now that I'm 14, will New York allow me to get an instruction permit to drive?
Not likely.  Most states require residents to be at least 15 or 15 1/2 years old before applying for a learner's permit.  We recommend that your contact the New York DMV office or a New York-approved driver training institute such as Gateway Driving Center to learn more about the minimum driving age requirement in New York.
I live in Schenectady New York. Does the law say I have to enroll in both a driver ed classroom or online course and a driver training course in order to be fully-licensed here?
Each state has its own laws in regards to licensing procedures.  However, most states do mandate that new, teen-aged drivers successfully complete both a behind-the-wheel training course plus either a drivers education online course or drivers education classroom course .
I have to register for a safe driving class in Schenectady New York before New York will give me my driver's license. Does Gateway Driving Center offer this type of course?
