Oxford Driving School FAQ's

Can you tell me if Oxford Driving School is a certified driver training school in California?
Although Oxford Driving School is listed on our list of driving schools in your area, we are unable to say with certainty as to whether they are currently licensed to teach behind-the-wheel training courses in California.  We recommend either calling Oxford Driving School directly or the California DMV to find out whether or not Oxford Driving School offers hands-on driving courses that are state-approved.
Somebody told me that I can skip out of attending a driver training school if my parents give me behind-the-wheel training instead. Is that permissible in California?
Each state has its own laws regarding behind-the-wheel training.  Some states will allow parentally-supervised driver training as a substitute for taking a driver training course which is taught by a professional driving instructor.  However, not all states allow this.  You should contact the California DMV to find out for sure.
What happens if I don't know how to drive a stick-shift vehicle? Will Oxford Driving School allow me to do my driver training with an automatic-shift automobile?
Considering you're a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about driving any type of vehicle--stick-shift or automatic-shift!  However, if you prefer to complete your behind-the-wheel training using an automatic-shift vehicle, you should contact Oxford Driving School and inform them before you register for their driver training course.  That way you will know for certain if they will accommodate you.
I live in a remote area, that has a lot of dirt roads and bumpy terrain. Will Oxford Driving School train me how to drive in BOTH city AND rural environments?
If you live in a remote area, chances are very good that a local driver training school like Oxford Driving School will want you to be trained in driving specific to the local area's terrain.
Can 14-year-olds obtain instruction permits to drive in California?
Most states have set the minimum age for applying for an instruction permit at 15 or 15 1/2.  However, some states do allow 14-year-olds to obtain a learner's permit.  You may want to contact the California DMV or a California-approved driver training school like Oxford Driving School to find out what the minimum age to drive is in California.
