Pro Drive FAQ's

Is Pro Drive certified by the Oregon DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses?
Although we include Pro Drive in our directory of driving schools for Prtland Oregon, we cannot make any assurances about whether or not Pro Drive is certified by the Oregon DMV.  You should contact Pro Drive directly and ask them if you are thinking about signing up to take their Prtland Oregon behind-the-wheel training class.
Do I have to take a driver training course? Can't my parents just give me my driver training?
There are some states that do allow parents or guardians to provide their teen-aged kids' required driver training in order to obtain a driver's license.  However many states do not allow any type of substitution for attending a professionally-taught driver training course.  We suggest you contact your state's DMV to find out what the laws are in your state regarding behind-the-wheel training.
What if I don't know how to drive a vehicle with a manual-shift? Does Pro Drive have an automatic-shift vehicle they'll let me train with?
Since you're just learning how to drive, you probably don't know how to operate either a manual-shift or an automatic-shift vehicle!  However, if you have a preference as to a manual or an automatic, you probably should call Pro Drive to see if they can accommodate your request prior to your signing up to take their behind-the-wheel training course.
Since I live way out in a rural area where driving on dirt roads and rugged terrain is the norm, will Pro Drive be able to teach me how to drive in a rural environment? Or do they only prepare you for city-driving?
Since you live in a rural area, odds are that any local driving school in your area such as Pro Drive will want you to be able to drive safely on dirt roads and bumpy terrain.  We recommend that you contact Pro Drive directly to find out exactly what they offer.
Can I apply for my Oregon instruction permit once I turn 14?
Most likely, no.  Most states have set the youngest age to obtain an instruction permit at 15 or 15½.  You may want to contact the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving instruction school like Pro Drive to learn more about the minimum age requirement in Oregon.
Do I have to complete a Prtland Oregon drivers education classroom course or online course before registering for one of Pro Drive's behind-the-wheel training courses?
Each state has its own laws, but most states will require first-time drivers to take both a behind-the-wheel training course plus either a drivers education classroom course (which are about 30 hours in length) or an approved online defensive driving course.  You may want to ask Pro Drive if they offer one or both programs.
Oregon's DMV has told me that I need to take a driver training course. Do you know if Pro Drive offers this course or not?
Pro Drive does offer the behind-the-wheel training course that Oregon requires all new teen-aged drivers to take.  For more information about the courses Pro Drive offers, we recommend that you contact Pro Drive directly.
What are the requirements in Prtland Oregon for obtaining a drivers license?
It depends on your state's laws, however in many states, teen-agers must complete both a safe driving classroom course and a behind-the-wheel training course.  Pro Drive may offer an approved driver training course which you could take.  Please contact Pro Drive for information regarding their available classes and how to go about signing up for them.
Is there a law in Oregon that says I have to take behind-the-wheel training in order to get my driver's license?
Yes.  State law in Oregon requires that all teen-agers successfully complete an approved driver training course before receiving a Oregon driver's license.
Do I need to have my instruction permit before I enroll in a driver training course like the one that Pro Drive offers?
You will need to contact Pro Drive or the Oregon DMV to find out if you are allowed to register with a driver training school like Pro Drive before receiving your Oregon learner's permit.
