Advantage Driving Academy FAQ's

Since Advantage Driving Academy is listed on your website, does this mean they are approved by the Oregon DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses?
The list of driver training schools on our webpage is provided as a convenience to our customers only.  We CANNOT guarantee that every single school listed is fully-certified by the Oregon DMV.  You may want to call Advantage Driving Academy directly to find out if they offer a state-certified behind-the-wheel training course.
Could I just have my mother or father teach me how to drive instead of paying money to attend a professional driver training course?
It depends on which state you live in.  There are some states which allow you to complete your hands-on driver training with a parent or guardian instead of enrolling in a professional driving school.  However many states require that first-time drivers take a professionally-taught driver training course.  We recommend that you check with your state's DMV office to find out if your parent or guardian can fill the role as your behind-the-wheel driving instructor.
I have no clue how to drive a stick-shift vehicle. What happens if Advantage Driving Academy makes me train on a manual-shift vehicle?
Considering the fact you are a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating ANY type of vehicle....manual OR automatic!  If you prefer to do your behind-the-wheel training with an automatic-shift vehicle, you may want to call Advantage Driving Academy and let them know before you sign up to take their behind-the-wheel training course.  That way you'll know for certain whether Advantage Driving Academy will be able to accommodate you before you pay them any money.
The area in which I live is mostly undeveloped--very few paved roads and mountains are all around. Will Advantage Driving Academy be able to teach me how to drive safely on rugged terrain as well as in a city or town?
Considering that you live in a rural area, chances are excellent that a local driving school like Advantage Driving Academy will want you to be able to drive safely on dirt roads and other types of bumpy terrain.  You may wish to contact Advantage Driving Academy to find out exactly what their driver training course includes before signing up to take their training course.
After I turn 14, will I be eligible to obtain my instruction permit so I can begin to learn how to drive?
It depends on which state you live in, however most states unfortunately require you to be at least 15 (or sometimes 15 1/2) before you can be issued a instruction permit.  We suggest that you contact a local driver training school such as Advantage Driving Academy or the Oregon DMV office to learn more about the minimum age requirement for driving in Oregon.
Is taking a drivers education course in a classroom or online sufficient in Tigard Oregon or do I also have to enroll in a driver training class with a professional driving instructor?
It depends on what the Oregon's laws require, but many states do mandate that new, young drivers to register for a driver training class with a professional driving instructor as well as a drivers education classroom or online course.
I have to take a defensive driving course in Tigard Oregon. Can I meet this requirement by enrolling in Advantage Driving Academy?
Yes, Advantage Driving Academy offers defensive driving courses in Tigard Oregon.  You will need to contact Advantage Driving Academy directly to get more information on the types of courses they offer and when to register for a class.
What are the requirements in Tigard Oregon for obtaining a drivers license?
It depends on your state's laws, however in many states, teen-agers must complete both a safe driving classroom course and a behind-the-wheel training course.  Advantage Driving Academy may offer an approved driver training course which you could take.  Please contact Advantage Driving Academy for information regarding their available classes and how to go about signing up for them.
What does the law in Oregon say about driver training courses? Do I have to take one to get my driver's license?
Yes, you do.  Oregon law states that new drivers enroll in an approved behind-the-wheel training course as a prerequisite to getting their first driver's license.
Can I sign up to take a Oregon-certified driver training course even if I don't have my Oregon instruction permit yet?
Most likely, no.  Most states have laws that require a pre-licensed driver to have obtained a Oregon learners permit before registering in a Oregon behind-the-wheel training course.  It would be best for you to contact a driving school such as Advantage Driving Academy and ask for more information.
