Defensive Driving Schools of America FAQ's

Are all the driving schools listed on your website fully-accredited by the Texas DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in Texas?
The driving school directory on our website is for your convenience only, and we cannot absolutely guarantee that every driving school listed is currently licensed to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in Texas.  We suggest you contact the Texas DMV to make sure a particular driving school is licensed before you sign up to take their driving course.
Do I have to take a driver training course? Can't my parents just give me my behind-the-wheel training?
There are some states that do permit parents or guardians to provide their teen-aged kids' required behind-the-wheel training in order to obtain a driver's license.  However many states do not allow any type of substitution for attending a professionally-taught behind-the-wheel training course.  We suggest you contact your state's DMV to find out what the laws are in your state regarding hands-on driving instruction.
What happens if I don't know how to drive a manual-shift vehicle? Will Defensive Driving Schools of America allow me to do my behind-the-wheel training with an automatic-shift vehicle?
Considering you're a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating any type of car--stick-shift or automatic-shift!  However, if you prefer to complete your driver training using an automatic-shift vehicle, you should contact Defensive Driving Schools of America and let them know before you sign up to take their driver training course.  That way you will know for certain if they will accommodate you.
I live out in the middle of nowhere. There are rural and mountain roads all around. Will Defensive Driving Schools of America train me how to drive in BOTH rural AND city areas?
If you live in a rural or mountain town, chances are that a local driving school like Defensive Driving Schools of America will include behind-the-wheel driver training specifically tailored to that terrain.
I just turned 14 years old. Can I receive my instruction permit in Texas?
Probably not.  The minimum age requirement for holding a learners permit in most states is 15 1/2.  You should contact the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving school such as Defensive Driving Schools of America to find out more information about the minimum age requirement in Texas.
Can I take Defensive Driving Schools of America's driver training course before taking a Arlington Texas drivers education classroom course or online course?
It depends on what Texas's laws prescribe.  However, you should know that most states will require teen-aged, first-time drivers to complete both a defensive driving classroom course (which are approximately 30 hours in length, depending on Texas's laws) or an approved online course, plus a state-approved driver training course.  We recommend that you contact Defensive Driving Schools of America directly to see if they offer either (or both) of these courses.
Does Defensive Driving Schools of America provide a hands-on driver training course like the one that is required by the State of Texas? I need to sign up for one in order to obtain my driver license.
Defensive Driving Schools of America offers driver training courses which are approved by the Texas DMV.  You may want to contact Defensive Driving Schools of America directly for more information about their courses and how to go about registering for one.
What are the prerequisites in Arlington Texas for getting a drivers license?
It depends on your state's laws, however in many states, teen-agers must complete both a safe driving classroom course and a driver training course.  Defensive Driving Schools of America may offer an approved driver training course which you could take.  Please contact Defensive Driving Schools of America for information regarding their available classes and how to go about signing up for them.
Is hands-on driver training required in Texas in order to be licensed to operate a motor vehicle?
Absolutely.  All new drivers in Texas must take an approved driver training course before they can get a license to independently drive a motor vehicle.
Is it okay for me to enroll in a behind-the-wheel training class in Texas before I receive my Texas instruction permit to drive?
Probably not.  Most states require first-time drivers to have their learners permit before they are allowed to enroll in a behind-the-wheel training program.  You should contact a driving instruction company like Defensive Driving Schools of America and request more information.
