Lake Travis Driving Academy FAQ's

Is Lake Travis Driving Academy a licensed driving school in Texas?
Just because a driving school appears on our directory of driver training institutions, we cannot guarantee that they are fully licensed to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in Texas.  We highly recommend that you contact Lake Travis Driving Academy directly or the Texas DMV to find out for sure if Lake Travis Driving Academy offers driver training courses that have been approved by the State of Texas.
Will the Texas DMV allow my parents to supervise my driving practice instead of requiring me to take a behind-the-wheel training course at a state-approved driving school?
Possibly.  Some states will allow your parents to supervise your driving practice as a substitute to taking a driver training course with a professional driving instructor.  You will need to contact the Texas DMV to find out if your driver training may be done by your parents in Texas.
What if I don't know how to operate a vehicle with a manual-shift? Does Lake Travis Driving Academy have an automatic-shift vehicle they'll let me train with?
Since you're just learning how to drive, you probably don't know how to operate either a manual-shift or an automatic-shift vehicle!  However, if you have a preference as to a stick or an automatic, you probably should call Lake Travis Driving Academy to see if they can accommodate your request prior to your enrolling in their driver training course.
I live in a small rural community, where there are a lot of small, unpaved roads. Will my behind-the-wheel training with Lake Travis Driving Academy include being taught how to drive in rural areas? Or do they just offer training for urban driving?
Most local driving schools will likely want their students to be taught how to drive safely in the local area.  Therefore, chances are good that the behind-the-wheel training you receive from Lake Travis Driving Academy will include handling dirt roads and mountain driving.
If I'm 14, can I get an instruction permit to drive in Texas?
Possibly.  However, you should be aware that most states require you to be at least 15½ years old before you can get an instruction permit.  We recommend that you contact the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a certified driving school such as Lake Travis Driving Academy to find out exactly what the minimum age requirement is in Texas.
Can I take Lake Travis Driving Academy's behind-the-wheel training course before taking a Austin Texas defensive driving classroom course or online course?
It depends on what Texas's laws say.  However, you should know that most states will require teen-aged, first-time drivers to complete both a drivers education classroom course (which are approximately 30 hours in length, depending on Texas's laws) or an approved online course, plus a state-approved behind-the-wheel training course.  We recommend that you contact Lake Travis Driving Academy directly to see if they offer either (or both) of these courses.

What are the requirements in Austin Texas for obtaining a drivers license?
