Lone Star Driving School FAQ's

Is Lone Star Driving School licensed by the Texas DMV to offer driver training courses?
Although we include Lone Star Driving School in our directory of driving schools for Houston Texas, we cannot make any assurances about whether or not Lone Star Driving School is licensed by the Texas DMV.  You should contact Lone Star Driving School directly and ask them if you are thinking about enrolling in their Houston Texas driver training class.
Will the Texas DMV allow my parents to supervise my driving practice instead of requiring me to take a behind-the-wheel training course at a state-approved driving school?
Possibly.  Some states will allow your parents to supervise your driving practice as a substitute to taking a driver training course with a professional driving instructor.  You will need to contact the Texas DMV to find out if your behind-the-wheel driving may be done by your parents in Texas.
Do I need to tell Lone Star Driving School that I need to train with an automatic-shift automobile? I don't know how to operate a manual-shift automobile.
Most new drivers don't know how to operate either a manual-shift OR and automatic-shift car!  We recommend that you ask Lone Star Driving School if you can complete your behind-the-wheel training using an automatic-shift car before you sign up to take their driver training course.
The area in which I live is mostly undeveloped--very few paved roads and mountains are all around. Will Lone Star Driving School be able to teach me how to drive safely on rugged terrain as well as in a city or town?
Considering that you live in a remote area, chances are excellent that a local driving school like Lone Star Driving School will want you to be able to drive safely on dirt roads and other types of rugged terrain.  You may wish to contact Lone Star Driving School to find out exactly what their behind-the-wheel training course includes before registering for their training course.
Are 14-year-olds allowed to apply for a learner's permit in Texas?
Although a few states allow teen-agers to begin practicing how to drive at 14, most states have set the youngest age for which to receive a learner's permit at either 15 or 15½.  You will need to contact the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving instruction company like Lone Star Driving School to find out what the minimum age for driving is in Texas.
Am I required to take a Houston Texas classroom or online drivers education course before I can sign up to take a driver training course through Lone Star Driving School?
This requirement varies from state to state but most states do mandate pre-licensed drivers to take BOTH a classroom-based driver education course (generally 30 hours in length) AND a driver training course.  You should ask Lone Star Driving School if they offer one or both programs.
I have to complete a safe driving class in Houston Texas before Texas will give me my driver's license. Does Lone Star Driving School offer this type of course?

Is it necessary for me to sign up for a driver training course in order to get my first Texas driver's license?
Yes, it is.  All teen-aged drivers applying for their first driver's license in Texas are required to take a state-approved behind-the-wheel training course.
