Hawkins Driver Education FAQ's

Is Hawkins Driver Education an approved driving school in Idaho?
Just because a driving school appears on our directory of driver training institutions, we cannot guarantee that they are fully licensed to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in Idaho.  We highly recommend that you contact Hawkins Driver Education directly or the Idaho DMV to find out for sure if Hawkins Driver Education offers hands-on driving courses that have been approved by the State of Idaho.
Could I just have my mother or father teach me how to drive instead of paying money to take a professional driver training course?
It depends on which state you live in.  There are some states which allow you to complete your behind-the-wheel training with a parent or guardian instead of attending a professional driving school.  However many states require that new drivers take a professionally-taught driver training course.  We recommend that you check with your state's DMV office to find out if your parent or guardian can fill the role as your behind-the-wheel driving instructor.
What if I don't know how to operate a manual-shift automobile? Does Hawkins Driver Education have automatic-shift vehicles that I can drive when I do my driver training?
If you're taking a Boise Idaho driver training class, chances are you don't know how to drive ANY vehicle yet-- manual or automatic.  However, if you prefer an automatic vehicle then you should tell Hawkins Driver Education that prior to registering for the course in order to make sure they can accommodate you.
I live in a very rural area, where there are mountains and a lot of unpaved roads. Do you know if Hawkins Driver Education teaches students how to drive in rural areas like where I live instead of just driving on smooth, paved roads in urban areas?
Since you live in a rural area, a local driving school such as Hawkins Driver Education will tailor your driver training to handle the conditions in your area.
Can I apply for my Idaho learner's permit once I turn 14?
Most likely, no.  Most states have set the minimum age to obtain an instruction permit at 15 or 15½.  You may want to contact the Idaho Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a certified driver training school like Hawkins Driver Education to learn more about the minimum age requirement in Idaho.
Do I have to complete a Boise Idaho drivers education classroom course or online course before registering for one of Hawkins Driver Education's behind-the-wheel training courses?
Each state has its own rules, but most states will require first-time drivers to take both a driver training course plus either a drivers education classroom course (which are about 30 hours in length) or an approved online drivers education course.  You may want to ask Hawkins Driver Education if they offer one or both programs.
If I need to enroll in a Boise Idaho driver training program, can Hawkins Driver Education help?
Yes.  Hawkins Driver Education offers driving instruction in Boise Idaho.  For more information about the type of behind-the-wheel training Hawkins Driver Education offers and the training schedule, you should contact them directly.
What are the requirements in Boise Idaho for obtaining a drivers license?
It depends on your state's laws, however in many states, teen-agers must complete both a drivers education classroom course and a behind-the-wheel training course.  Hawkins Driver Education may offer an approved behind-the-wheel training course which you could take.  Please contact Hawkins Driver Education for information regarding their available classes and how to go about registering for them.
Is it necessary for me to complete a behind-the-wheel training course in order to get my first Idaho driver's license?
Yes, it is.  All teen-aged drivers applying for their first driver's license in Idaho must complete a state-approved behind-the-wheel training course.
Can I enroll in a Idaho behind-the-wheel training course prior to having my Idaho learners permit?
