Flanagan's Driving School FAQ's

Flanagan's Driving School's address and phone number is listed on your webpage. How can I find out if it is a licensed behind the wheel training school in Maine?
Even though we provide a list of driver training schools on our website, we have no way of knowing for sure as to whether or not a particular school is licensed by the Maine DMV to offer driver training courses.  We strongly suggest that you contact Flanagan's Driving School directly or check with the Maine DMV to find out for sure if Flanagan's Driving School is a licensed school.
Do I have to take a behind-the-wheel training course? Can't my parents just give me my behind-the-wheel training?
There are some states that do permit parents or guardians to provide their teen-aged kids' required behind-the-wheel training in order to obtain a driver's license.  However many states do not allow any type of substitution for attending a professionally-taught driver training course.  We suggest you contact your state's DMV to find out what the laws are in your state regarding hands-on driving instruction.
I have no clue how to drive a stick-shift vehicle. What happens if Flanagan's Driving School makes me train on a manual-shift vehicle?
Considering the fact you are a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating ANY type of vehicle....stick OR automatic!  If you prefer to do your behind-the-wheel training with an automatic-shift vehicle, you may want to call Flanagan's Driving School and let them know before you enroll in their behind-the-wheel training course.  That way you'll know for sure whether Flanagan's Driving School will be able to accommodate you before you pay them any money.
I live in a very remote area, where there are mountains and a lot of dirt roads. Do you know if Flanagan's Driving School offers training for driving in rural areas like where I live instead of just driving on smooth, paved roads in urban areas?
Since you live in a rural area, a local driving school such as Flanagan's Driving School will tailor your behind-the-wheel training to handle the conditions in your area.
Can 14-year-olds get instruction permits to drive in Maine?
Most states have set the minimum age for applying for a learner's permit at 15 or 15 1/2.  However, some states do allow 14-year-olds to obtain an instruction permit.  You may want to contact the Maine DMV or a Maine-approved driver training school like Flanagan's Driving School to find out what the minimum age to drive is in Maine.
Can I take Flanagan's Driving School's driver training course before taking a Sanford Maine defensive driving classroom course or online course?
It depends on what Maine's laws say.  However, you should know that most states will require teen-aged, first-time drivers to complete both a drivers education classroom course (which are approximately 30 hours in length, depending on Maine's laws) or an approved online course, plus a state-approved driver training course.  We recommend that you contact Flanagan's Driving School directly to see if they offer either (or both) of these courses.
Maine law says that I must sign up to take a hands-on driver training course in order to get licensed to drive in Sanford Maine. Is this something that Flanagan's Driving School can help me with?
Yes, Flanagan's Driving School offers the Maine-approved behind-the-wheel training course.  For more information about their classes and instruction schedule, please contact Flanagan's Driving School directly.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a Maine driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to complete both a behind-the-wheel training course in addition to a safe driving classroom or online course.  You may wish to contact the Maine DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to fulfill in order to obtain your first driver's license.
What are the laws in Maine concerning driver training courses? Do I have to take one to get my driver's license?
Yes, you do.  Maine law states that new drivers successfully complete an approved behind-the-wheel training course as a prerequisite to obtaining their first driver's license.
Is it all right if I sign up with a behind-the-wheel training school like Flanagan's Driving School prior to my receiving my learner's permit?
In most states, you are required to have already gotten your learner's permit before you enroll in your driver training course like the one offered by Flanagan's Driving School.  We suggest you contact either Flanagan's Driving School to find out more information.
