Colorado Driving Institute FAQ's

Are all the driving schools listed on your website fully-accredited by the Colorado DMV to offer driver training courses in Colorado?
The driving school directory on our website is for your convenience only, and we cannot absolutely guarantee that every driving school listed is currently licensed to offer driving training courses in Colorado.  We suggest you contact the Colorado DMV to make sure a particular driver training school is accredited before you enroll in their driver training course.
Somebody told me that I can skip out of attending a driver training school if my parents give me behind-the-wheel training instead. Is that permissible in Colorado?
Each state has its own laws regarding behind-the-wheel training.  Some states will allow parentally-supervised driver training as a substitute for enrolling in a behind-the-wheel training course which is taught by a professional driving instructor.  However, not all states allow this.  You should contact the Colorado DMV to find out for sure.
Do I need to tell Colorado Driving Institute that I need to train with an automatic-shift vehicle? I don't know how to operate a stick-shift vehicle.
Most new drivers don't know how to operate either a stick-shift OR and automatic-shift car!  We recommend that you ask Colorado Driving Institute if you can complete your driver training using an automatic-shift vehicle before you register for their driver training course.
Since I live way out in a remote location where driving on unpaved roads and rugged terrain is the norm, will Colorado Driving Institute be able to teach me how to drive in a non-urban environment? Or do they only prepare you for city-driving?
Since you live in the country, odds are that any local driving school in your area such as Colorado Driving Institute will want you to be able to drive safely on dirt roads and rugged terrain.  We recommend that you contact Colorado Driving Institute directly to find out exactly what they offer.
Can I get my Colorado learner's permit once I turn 14?
Most likely, no.  Most states have set the youngest age to obtain a learner's permit at 15 or 15½.  You may want to contact the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving instruction school like Colorado Driving Institute to learn more about the minimum age requirement in Colorado.
Will I be required to sign up for both a drivers education classroom or online course and a behind-the-wheel training course in Boulder Colorado?
It depends on which state you live in, but many states now require new teen-aged drivers to sign up for both a drivers education course as well as a behind-the-wheel training course.
Does Colorado Driving Institute provide a driver training course like the one that is required by the State of Colorado? I need to sign up for one in order to obtain my driver license.
Colorado Driving Institute offers hands-on driver training courses which are approved by the Colorado DMV.  You may want to contact Colorado Driving Institute directly for more information about their courses and how to go about signing up for one.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a Colorado driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to sign up to take both a behind-the-wheel training course in addition to a safe driving classroom or online course.  You may wish to contact the Colorado DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to fulfill in order to obtain your first driver's license.
Do I have to take a Boulder Colorado behind-the-wheel training course in order to get a driver's license?
