AK Driving School FAQ's

Are all the driving schools listed on your website fully-accredited by the Texas DMV to offer driver training courses in Texas?
The driving school directory on our website is for your convenience only, and we cannot absolutely guarantee that every driving school listed is currently certified to offer driving training courses in Texas.  We suggest you contact the Texas DMV to make sure a particular driver training school is licensed before you sign up to take their driver training course.
Will the Texas DMV allow my parents to supervise my driving practice instead of requiring me to take a behind-the-wheel training course at a state-approved driving school?
Possibly.  Some states will allow your parents to supervise your driving practice in place of taking a driver training course with a professional driving instructor.  You will need to contact the Texas DMV to find out if your driver training may be done by your parents in Texas.
What happens if I don't know how to drive a manual-shift vehicle? Will AK Driving School allow me to do my driver training with an automatic-shift vehicle?
Considering you're a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about driving any type of automobile--stick-shift or automatic-shift!  However, if you prefer to complete your driver training using an automatic-shift vehicle, you should contact AK Driving School and inform them before you sign up to take their driver training course.  That way you will know for certain if they will accommodate you.
Since I live way out in a rural area where driving on unpaved roads and bumpy terrain is the norm, will AK Driving School be able to teach me how to drive in a rural environment? Or do they only prepare you for city-driving?
Since you live in a rural area, odds are that any local driving school in your area such as AK Driving School will want you to be able to drive safely on dirt roads and bumpy terrain.  We recommend that you contact AK Driving School directly to find out exactly what they offer.
Now that I'm 14, will Texas allow me to get a learner's permit to drive?
Not likely.  Most states require residents to be at least 15 or 15 1/2 years old before applying for an instruction permit.  We recommend that your contact the Texas DMV office or a Texas-approved driver training institute such as AK Driving School to learn more about the minimum driving age requirement in Texas.
Do I have to take both a drivers education classroom course and a behind-the-wheel training course in Houston Texas to get my Texas driver's license?
The laws vary depending on which state you live in, but most states do require that pre-licensed drivers sign up to take a defensive driving classroom course and a behind-the-wheel training course.  You may want to call a driving instruction company like AK Driving School and find out if they offer either (or both) of these programs.
Texas's DMV has told me that I need to take a driver training course. Do you know if AK Driving School offers this course or not?
AK Driving School does offer the behind-the-wheel training course that Texas requires all new teen-aged drivers to take.  For more information about the courses AK Driving School offers, we recommend that you contact AK Driving School directly.
How do I get a drivers license in Houston Texas?
In most states, pre-licensed teens are required to complete both a classroom drivers education course and a driver training course.  AK Driving School may be able to help you fulfill the behind-the-wheel training portion in Texas.
What does the law in Texas say about driver training courses? Do I have to take one to get my driver's license?
Yes, you do.  Texas law states that new drivers enroll in an approved behind-the-wheel training course as a prerequisite to getting their first driver's license.
Can I register for a Texas driver training course prior to having my Texas learners permit?
