How old do I have to be to get my Texas drivers license?

You must be 16 years of age to receive your Texas drivers license and you also must have held your Texas learners permit for six months.


What Texas learner permit paperwork do I need before I can drive a car?

Once you pass your Texas driver education course, you will need to present the completion certificate (form DE-964 ) to get your Texas learners permit. You will also need to show proof of identity, Social Security Number, verification of attendance and enrollment in school (TEA form GEA-043R93), proof of registration and liability insurance, parental authorization signature, and photograph and thumbprints.  Step-by-step instructions and form access will be provided to you during this online Texas driver ed course.

 


What if I don’t pass the test? How many times can I take the test?

For this Texas driver education class, you may re-take the final exam as many times as necessary in order to pass at no additional charge.


How many questions are on the final exam at the end of this course?

There are 90 questions on the Texas driving final exam.  You are required to score at least 75% in order to pass; however, you may retake it as many times as necessary in order to pass.


Does your course meet all DPS requirements?

Our course is fully approved by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Education Agency.  The course meets all of the requirements for a Texas online driver education program.  By taking this course, a student who meets the minimum age and permit holding requirements can get his or her driver's license.


How long until I receive my Texas certificate of completion?

Once you complete the course we will ship you a Texas certificate of completion for Texas online driver education.  Delivery time depends upon the method of shipping selected (US Mail or FedEx Overnight, 2nd day or 3rd day).


When can I start driving?

You can begin driving (accompanied by a licensed driver of at least 21 years of age) once you have completed Module 1 of this course, taken your permit exam at the Department of Public Safety and received your Texas learner permit.   You must be at least 15 years of age before you can get a Texas permit to drive.


How long do I need to have my permit before I can get my driver’s license?

If you are under 18 you must hold a Texas learner's permit for a minimum of six months before you can get a license. You must also complete both the classroom and driving portions of driver education.

 


Am I required to do Behind the Wheel training?

You must complete both the classroom and driving portions of driver education to receive your Texas driver's license.  This online driver education course covers both the classroom and driving portions of your Texas drivers education.


How many hours of supervised driving do I have to have before I can get my driver’s license?

You need 14 hours (7 hours behind-the-wheel instruction and 7 hours in-car practice) of supervised driving before you can get your Texas driver's license.


Can my friends ride with me after I get my permit or license?

If you hold a Texas instruction permit, in addition to the 21-year-old licensed driver sitting in the front passenger seat actively supervising your driving, you may carry only one (1) passenger under the age of 21 who is not a member of your immediate family.

As of 2009, if you are under 18 and hold a restricted Texas driver's license or provisional Texas driver's license you may drive with only one (1) non-family member passenger in the automobile who is under the age of 21.   


Can I drive alone with my Texas learners permit or provisional license?

If you hold a Texas learner's permit, you must be accompanied by a licensed driver of at least 21 years of age.   If you hold a Texas driver's license and are under 18, for the first twelve (12) months you may not drive between midnight and 5:00 a.m. unless you are going to or from work or school or because of a medical emergency.
